CAMTEL Celebrates Labour force Achievement

The International Labour Day celebration at CAMTEL brought together the management and the staff in a family spirit. The celebration was chaired by the General Manager, Madam Judith Yah Sunday, on May 1st 2025, at Club CAMTEL, in the dragage neighborhood in Yaounde under the theme “Social Dialogue and decent work for a Serene Cameroon”.

Both staff and hierachy outlined the dignity of labour, the path covered, the realisations made and the future view.

This was scripted by the General Manager and detailed in her speech on the occasion of the commemoration.

While reflecting on social dialogue the Manager spoke of CAMTEL as a company that talks to its employees and lend them a listening ear, CAMTEL as a company where the rights, duties and dignity of workers are consistently defended and CAMTEL as a human network that is sturdy.

The internal and external collaborators of CAMTEL were prideful that in the face of technical challenges, constant questioning, and attacks, CAMTEL stands tall in sorting out its issues. The General Manager thus took turns to applaud workers “First of all, on this day of celebration, I would like to salute the strength of our collective commitment. Because while technologies evolve, while infrastructures become denser, while tools become more intelligent, nothing will ever eplace human intelligence, human commitment, the beating heart of our employees”

CAMTEL also celebrated its investment in human capital which is contributing in digital growth. These include the payment of retirement benefits up to 2024 and the activation of a process for the payment of advancements in arrears. To strengthen its capacity, CAMTEL hired 75 engineers, 25 satellite engineers to expand it’s bandwidth, 25 integration engineers to harmonise its networks, and 25 developers to code the future of the CAMTEL platforms and applications.

The GPEC is now operational in CAMTEL and ensures that each skill is given its rightful place and that each talent knows where it can go. There is also the PANESS’ consultancy report on remuneration that has been introduced at CAMTEL , which is giving a clear and structured overview of what each individual’s effort is and should be worth. Celebrating the International Labour Day the General Manager and her colleagues recalled the moments when staff and management sat on the table for frank dialogue which has been fruitful.

The  labour force  in CAMTEL extends to sports as CAMTEL has championed the Digital Tournament.

CAMTEL’s Mobile Network Expansion project has moved beyond the PowerPoint stage to enter its operational phase. The General Manager thus announced a mobile money project that would soon go operational, which shall be called “Blue money” and shall tackle the dead zones. The Manager however regretted attacks on CAMTEL including vandalism, sabotage, nighttime shoveling of fiber optics, deliberate destruction of equipment and looting. She thus urged her collaborators to be engaged in protecting the Infrastructure “Every CAMTEL employee must become a monitoring agent. A human sensor. A living alarm. If you see something, you report it. If you doubt it, you investigate. If you hear something, you report it.

Because Cameroon’s digital sovereignty begins with securing its telecom lines.

And these lines are our fiber optics, our equipment, our stations, our sites. It’s our heritage. It’s your heritage” she noted

She shunned employees who defraud customers, embezzle, resell or plunder the company’s assets whether cables, batteries, terminals, or SIM cards. Such acts are said to undermine the entire company’s reputation and betray the trust of citizens, weakens the production tool and empties the infrastructure. “This behavior is intolerable, and we will no longer tolerate it” Mrs. Judith Yah warned

The day offered a moment for workers to converge as a family and boast of the pride of work while taking resolve to improve on output. It was highly dominated by winning, dancing and eating
