The sum of seven million three hundred and fifty thousand FCFA was raised by the sons and daughters of Baligham for the construction of a Multipurpose Hall in Yaounde. They converged under the Baligham Cultural and Development Union (BACDU) for the fundraiser on April 27, 2025, at the Yaounde City Council Hall, in the presence of King Doh Gahnyam II of Baligham who doubles as the Mayor of Santa Council.
Also present was King Ganyamnyim III of Balikumbat, the National President of BACDU, Bah Gahkemi Christopher Leba, Mr. Matinkang Peter as the Chairperson of BACDU Center, South and East, Mr. Babila Henry Voma, Chair of the Fundraising Organising Committee, Senator Enwe Francis of the Momo Constituency, Hon Kumase Simon of the Mezam South Constituency (Santa) and many other personalities.
The final amount that was raised was put together by a united front of civil, traditional and political personalities. Some of them include Senator Regina Mundi with the sum of five hundred thousand frs, Senator Enwe Francis with the sum of 150 thousand frs, Hon. Kumase Simon and wife with the sum of two hundred thousand frs, Senator Prof. Mrs. Nebah Bridgette Ndosiri of the Mezam Constituency gave two hundred thousand frs, the S.G of the Constitutional Council with 200 hundred thousand frs, the President of the Baligham Cultural and Development Union with 550, 0000frs and many others who put together their financial might.
The project of the multipurpose hall, shall be is a storey building at Nkolbisson, Yaounde, with offices and halls that would accommodate and be the center of Baligham activities.
Speaking during the occasion, the King of Baligham expressed gratitude for the elites and population of the Kingdom who identified with the project through their physical and financial contributions, stating that the intention to raise a multi-purpose hall in Yaounde is factored on decentralisation “Cameroon is a state where we are practicing Decentralisation and by so doing it is to decentralise our organs so that when the Fon is at the level of the village, our sons and sundry in Yaounde can now practice the cultural and development activities wherever they are. I am appreciating my elites, my sons and sundry. I have come to discover that yesterday is not what I am seeing today and to say that they should continue with this wonderful spirit of love because I am overwhelmed and if you would have looked I nearly shed tears of joy seeing all my sons and sundry to come together and talk about development” Fon Doh Gahnyam II, King of Baligham and Mayor of Santa Council said during the ceremony.
To Mr . Matinkang Peter, Chairperson of the Baligham Center, South and East Union Development, the multipurpose hall would be a center for Baligham activities and reduce the burden of walking about to houses of members for meetings. He added that the funds would be managed prudently.
“We have to use what they are going to contribute judiciously. No franc would be spent on something else apart of that building” Mr . Matinkang said.
The force behind the hall project also accentuated the united front of the CPDM elites in working as a team in terms of development. Talking about the political factor, Mr. Babila Henry Voma said “We are into politics actually with our two legs. October is no longer far. In the area of the CPDM it goes alongside development, three quarters of the elites who have contributed here are of the CPDM. The CPDM is development oriented. In that case, I as the Chargé de Mission for the Northwest Regional Permanent Delegation, I think that I’m not foolish myself. The “Gah” of Baligham is a Mayor of the CPDM in Santa. When it concerns the CPDM we are all development oriented and we are begging that all of you should register and vote for the CPDM so that more development should follow. I would also want to use this occasion to thank his excellency, Minister Paul Atanga Nji who has helped us in bringing peace in Baligham which today we can stand and say that we have development projects ongoing in Baligham because he helped us in fighting the Amba warriors. In fact he was supposed to chair this occasion but because of state duties he is out of the country and we are very proud of him and use this opportunity to thank him. In terms of politics Baligham is standing on its two feet so the elements that make up the CPDM around Baligham are forced to develop and what our able President has initiated is praiseworthy so we give him thanks” Mr. Babili Henry concluded.
Other personalities who were specially mentioned to have contributed to development in Baligham include Senator Regina Mundi, Mr. Goghumo, Minister Felix Mbayu , Fai Yengo Francis, Madam Sunday Yah Judith of CAMTEL, Ma Acha and many others.
