The sum of 350,000,000 FCFA shall be used to assist persons hit by floods in Cameroon’s Far North Region. The aid was sounded in Yaounde during a press briefing on September 13, 2024 by the country’s Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul.

Severe rainfall in Cameroon’s Far North Region recorded this 2024 landed the area to submersion. Preliminary reports across the media talk of loss of human and animal lives, huge material damage, displacement of persons and education perturbed. The Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul on September 13, 2024 announced 350 million francs made available by President Paul Biya for 950 families hit by floods in the Mayo- Danay and Logone and Chari Divisions of the Far North Region. He said the total number persons affected is 4750. The minister was briefing the press on measures taken by the government to address the recent floods. He announced that fifty trucks would transport basic necessities to the affected area meanwhile an interministerial team would commune with the affected population in the days ahead to supervise aid distribution, counsel the people and assess the situation. The Minister went ahead to express the condolences of the head of State with regards to eleven lives lost during the flood caused by severe rainfall triggered by climate change. He continued that President Paul Biya has asked for the climate situation in the entire national territory to be assessed for lasting climate security measures to be implemented. Minister Atanga Nji commended the Senior Divisional Officers and Governor of the area who have secured the affected persons, noting that preventive measures would continue being taken. While expressing hope that the recent flood disaster would be handled for sustainable calm. The Minister noted that the climate disturbances is not perculiar to Cameroon for Nigeria and Chad are also affected with floods, landslide and mudslide.
