AFL Notes Strong Media Strategies

The feminist oriented NGO known as l’association des Femmes Leaders (AFL) is currently revamping its communication strategies in order to be more visible in the public. The AFL on September 27, 2024, invited some journalists to seek expert advice on how to improve on its media presence. Present to draw lessons from the journalists were Nickel Liwa Ndi, Senior Social Project Manager of the AFL and Akamse Armelle Corine Frédérique, Coordinator of the AFL. Before enlightening the AFL on how to reinforce its media presence, the journalists were first informed about the feminist organization. l’association des Femmes Leaders, created in 2019 has the mission to empower women and girls, sensitize them on their rights, fight violence against women and eradicate all impediments that stand on the way of women who want to progress. They fulfill this mission by working with several women groups through awareness raising seminars, capacity building workshops and education. The overall aim is to give equal opportunities to women. The AFL is present on Facebook yet the lapses include the absence of a strong media impact. Thus the journalists advised the AFL to make it’s activities known by producing the content of it’s work on the social and traditional media; this means being present on the Internet and associated platforms including blogs, twitter, Instagram and having a WhatsApp channel where it reports its work and makes known its modus operandi. To further inform the public of its activities, the journalists advised the NGO to produce periodic magazines and newsletters depending on their means. There was also the tip to create competitive events with the AFL organising prize award ceremonies to communication professionalss and journalists who excel in feminist matters, train journalists in feminist reportage, provide media consultancy to journalist in feminist reporting, sponsor communication projects on feminist activities and create unique events that would imprint the AFL in the minds of the public. This advice was appreciated by the AFL officials who said they shall consider it for a communication facelift of the NGO.
