Men prefer women at menopause into the council of Notables. Women through AFFADA want greater recognition in traditional leadership. The women voiced their position in in a seminar in Yaounde on August 27 and 28, 2024. Present was Atanga Nji Paul, Minister of Territorial Administration. His presence was crucial given that the MINAT oversees the functioning of traditional chiefdoms. The Minister encouraged the unique role of women leaders in traditional chieftaincies during a workshop organized by a gender-oriented NGO known as “Association des Femmes et Filles de l’Adamaoua” (AFFADA), led by President Francois Baba.
The workshop aimed to mobilize stakeholders for the systematic integration of women into traditional councils of notables across chiefdoms in Cameroon, highlighting the role of women in the chieftain in Cameroon, presenting the complementary functions of women to men in the context of the chieftains and broadening The understanding of the law on the role of traditional notable women in chiefdoms. The Minister of Territorial Administration congratulated the president of AFFADA in this initiative. In addition, he also encouraged the traditional chiefs as who work in collaboration with women.The Minister of Territorial Administration declared his availability and readiness to support AFFADA’s activities, emphasizing that women play an essential role in society that is crucial for traditional chieftaincies.
