The Minister of Territorial Administration, this July 30, 2024, accompanied by the Governor of the Center Region, the S.D.O. of the Mfoundi Division and the seven D.Os of the various Sub Divisions, inspected 62 bags of Indian hemp being burned to ashes. Before allowing the drugs to go up in flames, the Minister commended security and administrative officials for a joint collaboration that led to the tracking of 1,614kg of Indian help which left Bui Division destined for Yaounde. “We have to congratulate the forces of law and order who did not only arrest these criminals but took the courage to seize this huge quantity of Indian hemp. We are talking of 1614kg of Indian hemp which is close to 400 million francs. So I think that this is a big catch. Following instructions from president Paul Biya during the last governor’s conference, he was adamantly clear that we should stage a big fight against all this trafficking and that drug trafficking is extremely very dangerous to our environment and for our children” The drugs were publicly destroyed at a dump site in the neighborhood of Nsam in Yaounde, before the press.
The Minister said the public destruction is a sign that the forces of law and order together with administrative authorities are ever more determined to work in synergy. “We have to reflect and put in place proper mechanisms so that we should completely disrupt the chain of those who are putting in place this criminal activity. Now that we are destroying it publicly, it is a very strong message that we are more than ever determined.
The forces of law and order, the local and administrative authorities would would put in place all what it takes to eradicate drug trafficking” The Minister says drug trafficking is dangerous for the environment and the health of children and contributes to banditry. Minister Atanga Nji insists on increased collaboration to block all routes of drug trafficking. The Minister said drug traffickers benefit a lot from complicity thus it is important to destroy the mechanisms that aid drug smuggling. He rejoiced that the destruction of the hard drugs would allow the population to live in tranquility.
