PhD Thesis Presents Solutions to Underperformance in Post Bureaucratic Organizations

A study on post bureaucratic organizations has identified weak managerial attitudes and underperformance as reasons for the stagnancy of these organizations.

Madam Theresia Enanga Mbua Ndoko epse Wanah Litumbe, presented this problem in her thesis with proposed solutions for the reorganisation and overhaul of post bureaucratic organs for better performance. This constituted part of the program to obtain her Doctoral degree in Management Sciences from the University of Douala. Thus she came out with a PhD thesis titled “Managerial practices and performance of post-bureautic organizations: case of the Ministry of Higher Education and State Universities in Cameroon”.

It was presented on May 8th, 2024 in the University of Douala before a jury of professors who assessed the dissertation to proclaim her worthy for the Doctoral degree. They include Mr BEKOLO Claude, Professor, University of Douala, Mr. NKAKLEU Raphaël, Professor, University of Douala, Mrs BIBOUM Altante, Professor, University of Douala, Mr. FOUDA ONGODO Maurice, Professor, University of Douala, Mr NJONG Aloyius, Professor, University of Bamenda, Mr NJOMO MUSAKE, Lecturer, University of Douala.

The thesis on Managerial Practices and Performance of Post-Bureaucratic Organizations, with scope as the Ministry of Higher Education and State Universities in Cameroon, established the lapses in study institutions that result in redundancy and underperformance. Such lapses include the absence of a sense of global competitiveness leading to stagnancy in education systems. The study further established that, post bureaucratic organisations do not rethink of how to reduce bottle necks in the chain of command there by keeping an integrated interactive servitude in coordinating intra-organ activities. There is also a gap in honesty at the level of the hierarchical approach to subordinate participation in good governance. To eradicate the poor managerial practices and underperformance in institutions managed by post-Bureaucratic Organizations, Mme Theresia Enanga, PhD, recommends a number of points that would serve as curatives. They include: encouraging decentralization with a flexible system which should be firm but fair, encouraging team spirit, give subordinates a fair chance to actively participate in policy and decision making, provision of adequate equipment and communication gadgets and the organization of capacity building seminars for personnel in order to improve performance.

The findings established by the study on Managerial practices and performance of post-bureautic organizations goes to accentuate similar findings by previous researchers with the objective to pull attention to it for a revision of such Organizations and reestablishment of the structures for competency based output.
