Wum Council/UNDP Partnership Transforms GTHS Wum

The new look of GTHS Wum is the fruit of a partnership between the Wum Municipal Council and the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP)

The Wum Municipal Council partnered with the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) to implement the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the Northwest and Southwest Regions (PPRD). The result is the refurbishing of Government Technical High School (GTHS) Wum. The refurbished school, comprises of a block of four classrooms, 240 desks, 100 chairs for the GTHS multipurpose hall, a borehole powered by solar, with a capacity tank of 5000 Liters of water, 5 stand taps, 172 Metres fence, solar electrification to facilitate the production of documents amongst others. Receiving the refurbished structures, the Lord Mayor of Wum Council, DIighambong Anthony Mvo, attributed the success of the project to peace and love for the motherland.

It should be noted that one of the key objectives of the PPRD is to rebuild infrastructure and structures that have been destroyed during the crisis. The Wum council has already benefited the rehabilitation of 4 primary schools and Government Nursery School Wum. As a testament to this commitment, the government has recently completed the refurbishment of the Government Technical High School in Wum, which had suffered extensive damage in the past years as the structures were abandoned to shred.

The government of Cameroon and its partners, have invested significant resources and efforts into this project in order to ensure that the school is brought back to its former glory and equipped to meet modern standards. The refurbished block of four classrooms is a shining example of the government’s commitment to providing quality education for the youth not only of Wum council area in Menchum Division, but of the Northwest Region as a whole.

To DDSE, Simon Amana, the new classrooms constructed with the latest materials, would provide a safe and conducive learning environment for students. The government has also equipped the classrooms with modern furniture, including desks, chairs, and other necessary facilities. These improvements not only enhance the learning experience but also demonstrate the government’s commitment to investing in the education sector.

It was a happy Principal, Mrs. Tabi Pamela Agwa, who reiterated the fact that the rebuilt Government Technical High School in Wum will cater to the education needs of the local community and surrounding areas. To her, this is a significant step towards rebuilding and revitalizing the education system in the Northwest region, which has been greatly affected by the crisis. The government believes that investing in education is crucial for the long-term development of the region and its people.

The Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon is a bold and comprehensive plan that aims to rebuild and revitalize the two anglophone regions. The refurbishment of the Government Technical High School in Wum is just one of the many projects under this plan, and it symbolizes the government’s determination to rebuild to modern standards and provide quality education for the youth. With the PPRD, the government is taking significant steps towards rebuilding the regions and creating a better future for its people.
