Parliament Condemns Nkambe Attack

Members of Parliament condemned the killing of a youth in Nkambe and the injuring of several others. The law makers castigated perpetrators of the 11th February terrorist attack in Nkambe, describing it as a despicable crime. Led by the eldest member of Parliament, Honourable Laurentine Koa Mfege, the Parliament spoke out during the opening of the March Ordinary Session of Parliament on March 5th .


Honourable Koa Mfege lashed out on the Nkambe terrorist attack which she considered as an attack on civic and youth rights. “Our children only asked to express themselves and in return, to be encouraged on this day dedicated to them by the Republic but the so-called separatists … bloodthirsty terrorists couldn’t think of anything better than to disrupt the peace and quietness of the festivities and the solemnity of the day, by shooting at the young people parading in the festival square” Nkoa Mfege noted that, the act is intolerable and bestial “On behalf of all the Members of Parliament gathered here today, I say no! Once again, enough is enough!!! Enough is Enough! In the name of all mothers, I condemn and denounce with utmost energy. I say and affirm that shooting children, in such circumstances is inhuman, unacceptable and absolutely criminal.”
On behalf of the Parliament, she expressed condolences to the parents of “young Cherish Lemnyuy” a form three student who lost his life following the barbaric incident.
Turning to her fellow members of Parliament, she called on each and everyone to thoroughly examine their ongoing tenure, especially given that they have just twelve months to complete their mandate. She asked them to work for positive imprints in the life of the local population.
She pointed out issues affecting the society including poor urban sanitation, power outages, inadequate water supply, unequipped medical facilities,
the quitting of classrooms by teachers, refusal to heed to the head of state, violence and drug abuse. She called on the parliament to face these issues in order to reverse the state of the decaying society.


The eldest member of Parliament saluted the efforts made by the Ministry of Commerce in helping citizens adapt to the high cost of fuel, calling on Parliament to play a role in helping the population absorb the shocks in fuel price increase.
The March Parliamentary session which opened on the 5th with the presence of members of government, shall last for the statutory period of not more than thirty days.
