Cameroon Ups Hajj Pilgrms from five to ten thousand

Cameroon’s National Hajj Commission, has presented a positive Balance Sheet of the 2023 Islamic pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. Atanga Nji Paul, chairman of the National Hajj Commission and cumulatively Minister of Territorial Administration, presided a meeting attended by commission members among them Mohamadou Moustapha, Deputy Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic and Iya Tidjani, Cameroon’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

The Minister, commended the commitment of the 33rd Hajj Commission as no grievous incident was recorded. He revealed that 5,373 persons made the pilgrimage, among them 3,165 from the National Hajj Commission and 2,208 private operators. Talking about the next hajj, he disclosed that, they are working to scale up the number of pilgrims from Cameroon “We would have about ten thousand pilgrims who would travel in 2024 and they have to start all ground work as early as October 30. We had an evaluation meeting of what was done last year and all stakeholders told me to express their profound gratitude to president Paul Biya for all the support he gave last year and with all the other support” The evaluation of the 33rd Hajj Commission opened the 34th commission for Hajj 2024. Though challenges during Hajj 2023 were not mentioned, Mr Atanga Nji said the commission members evaluated the previous hajj and are bent to eliminate all lapses for a better pilgrimage season.
