Governors Called to Implement Resolutions of 2023 First biannual Conference

Atanga Nji Paul, Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration has once again called on governors to continue the task of administering the regions in strict respect of law and order. The minister was Speaking during a two day meeting that held on July 17th and 18th in Yaounde, that brought together governors from all ten regions of the country, dubbed “First biannual governors conference”


The traditional biannual governors conference reviewed the welfare of Cameroon’s ten regions especially the domains of security, social-economy, politics, development and chieftaincy.
In his closing remarks at the conference, Minister Atanga Nji invited governors to continue being committed in their task “I ask the Governors of the Region to continue the actions already undertaken with the forces maintaining order, in order to fight against juvenile delinquency and drug trafficking in the vicinity of educational establishments.

These actions, it must be recognized, are intended to protect our young compatriots from crime and ultimately guarantee their development. In this wake, I recommend to you, to encourage the teaching and administrative staff to systematically denounce the suspicious individuals wandering around the educational establishment”

The two day conference featured in camera presentations. The first was a joint presentation by the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele and the Secretary of State to the Minister of Defense in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Galax Yves Landry Etoga on the state of security in the country. The second was a joint presentation by the Minister of Secondary Education, Pauline Nalova Lyonga, and the Minister of Basic Education, Laurent Serge Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa on security in schools.


Speaking to journalists, the ministers of education said they have intensified the fight against drugs and violence in schools. They however pleaded for the collaboration of governors to continue monitoring the situation with severe sanctions in order to keep schools free from drugs. “We know that Violence is all over. It’s not just Cameroon but it’s all over. And therefore we cannot find resolutions now but we can continue to talk to the parents and to the teachers. Everybody is looking for power but we must look for power and peace at the same time. The governors would continue to go after those who are peddling these drugs because we know them but government should make sure that those who are caught are caught and stay where they belong. There should be severe and permanent sanctions” Minister Nalova Lyonga said in an interview.


The governors are expected to be more surveillant and work in synergy with other stakeholders for a sound functioning of the state. The closing of the 2023 first biannual governors conference was glistened with the decoration of the governors of the North and South regions, by the Minister of Territorial Administration.
