BAFUT COUNCIL WIDENS POTENTIALS AT JEICOM 2023

Bafut Municipal Council presented its economic expertise during the second edition of the International Economic Forum for Councils abbreviated as JEICOM which took place at the Yaounde conference center, from June 1 to 3rd 2023. The Bafut Council represents the Bafut Municipality. It is one of seven Municipal Councils in Mezam Division of the Northwest Region in Cameroon.

Under the leadership of Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence, the Bafut Municipality exhibited its agricultural, cultural, aesthetic and architectural know how.

Among the products displayed by Bafut Municipality at JEICOM 2023 were sand, ginger, tumeric, ornamental designs, garri, brooms, palm oil and “country onions”

JEICOM 2023 was an opportunity to market the municipality’s strength as the products attracted viewers who bought. The council also had the opportunity to create rapport with prospective investors.

In an interview, the Mayor spoke about the encounter gotten by Bafut Municipality at JEICOM.

“We have been able to show case the qualities of sand that come out from the Bafut Municipality. We have equally showcased the waste transformation just as you can see for yourself and other food items like ginger which is also one of the main cash crops of the Bafut man and palm oil which also is one of the fundamental activity of the bafut people. So these are some of the things that we showcased at JEICOM 2023 and just to equally make the world know that Bafut Council equally took first during the local project by FEICOM. So they made the world to know that Bafut is still waxing strong and we are looking forward for next year to bring many, many, many more activities that are taking place in Bafut and the level of transformation and cultural production”

“Some partners have equally come and we have exchanged numbers and we will start talking business immediately we depart from here today. And I’m very very certain that this year is going to be better unlike last year when we came though many partners came promising but till today we have never heard from them again but I’m very very certain that, the few ones who came to us, because the were the ones who came looking for us, definitely, will be serious and they would be coming into full business in Bafut Sub Division. This one this year has created more impact for the Bafut council and we hope that by JEICOM 2024, we are coming in with our best and even the better” Mayor Ngwakongoh said concerning the presence of Bafut Municipality at JEICOM.

One of the economic know how presented by Mayor Ngwakongoh and his team at the International Economic Forum for Councils was the production and selling of

decorative flower frames from refuse. At JEICOM, the council diffused this knowledge to other councils “the Bafut community is telling the public that not everything called waste is waste. That’s why we use some of the waste to turn into crafts and then it’s good for decoration and we want to think that just as the other investors are coming to join us we are going to see how we can transform other waste products especially transforming them to manure, so that our farm produce equally increase in yield” the Mayo of said.

The Bafut Council and the Belo Council were the only two from the Northwest Region who were chosen to participate at JEICOM 2023.
