13 New Priests Ordained into Bamenda Archdiocese

Thirteen deacons have been ordained as priests into the Archdiocese of Bamenda by his Grace Andrew Nkea. The ordination ceremony took place on April 12, 2023 at the Piazza of the Saint Joseph’s Cathedral. After spending nine years in the seminary undergoing priestly formation, they were considered worthy for priestly ordination. Before attaining the ministry of priesthood, they progressively received the ministries of cantor, lector, acolyte and deacon.

The solemn moment of their ordination involved the rituals of prostration, laying on of hands, anointing of hands, giving of the chalice and the sign of peace. Standing before a Christian assembly, they said a definitive yes to the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. The newly ordained also resolved to discharge the office of priesthood in the presbyteral rank, exercise the ministry of the word worthily, celebrate faithfully and reverently the mysteries of Christ according to the Church’s tradition, remain celibate for the sake of the kingdom and in lifelong service to God and mankind, pray without ceasing, obey the bishop and imitate Jesus Christ the high priest.

Before executing the rites of ordination, Archbishop Andrew Nkea who was the ordaining bishop reflected on the office of priesthood. He spoke about rash entry and exit related to priesthood. The Archbishop expressed alarm that people are increasingly getting into the priesthood without profound understanding of what it means which is seen on how some are abandoning the priesthood. He said “the priesthood is not a job but a vocation”
Thus, he called on the 13 to avoid sacrilege, have self control, be self discipline and watch out against sins. He warned them not to get into business as the code of canon law forbids priests From doing business.
Further in his homily, the Archbishop raised alarm that priests are falling into the temptings of greed “How can an ordained minister fall into the hands of feymen, what would he tell his christians that he was doubling money to do with…Don’t search for money for yourself because the love of money is the root of all evil…If the priest chases the alms basket more than he chases the key of the tabernacle, then something is wrong” he admonished the new priests while giving his homily.

The Archbishop then encouraged the thirteen to be carryon with zeal
“My dear sons, do not be afraid of taking the step that you have chosen. The challenges are many but the most repeated words of Jesus Christ after his resurrection are peace be with you, do not be afraid. The lord who has called you would accompany you in your ministry and remember that no matter the difficulties that come your ways, the gates of the underworld would never prevail against his church”

The priests were celebrated by their family and friends. Dining and wining punctuated the jubilation. Gifts in cash and kind were also offered to the new priests.

Having been ordained priests, they shall administer the church’s seven sacraments: baptism, confirmation, confession, holy communion, marriage, holy orders, and anointing of the sick.

    1. Hi Petrus. The names were published before and during the ordination. So as it concerned general news.Cameroon Infotrend didn’t deem it necessary again to publish the nanes. However, I’ll add an image to the story bearing names of all thirteen newly ordained priests. Thank you for trusting Cameroon Infotrend
