Emeldine Kimeng Ngah, brought forth quadruplets after a successful caesarean delivery. The four babies are all boys born March 23rd, 2023 in a hospital in Douala, Cameroon’s economic capital. Midwives put the weight of the the four at 2.3kg, 2.4kg, 2.5kg and 2.6 kg respectively. She now has a total number of nine children, that is -a girl and eight boys. She told journalists that her first multiple birth was when she gave birth to twins during her second delivery.
Fetal ultrasound during her period of pregnancy detected three babies in her womb. The mother of the quadruplets expressed amazement at the sight of four kids after birthing.
Meantime the babies are under medical attention while people scramble to gaze at them.
Doctors say the babies and their mother are in good health. Tamfu Polycary Ngah is the father of the newborn quadruplets. At press time, he was visible at the bedside of his wife.
The couple hail from Nkambe, Donga and Mantung Division of the North-west Region of Cameroon.
Speculating help.
Eyes are now fixed on Cameroon’s philanthropic First Lady, Mrs Chantal Biya, for assistance to the quadruplets. The wife of President Paul Biya is reputed for being fond of mothers and children. Through her organisation known as “The Chantal Biya Foundation” she has reached out to a record number of persons who have brought forth either twins, triplets or quadruplets. Mrs Biya is known as a lover of children and she aids vulnerable and underprivileged mothers to fight hardship.
The health factor in multiple pregnancy
Multiple pregnancy is a pregnancy where you’re carrying more than one baby at a time. Science notes that triplet and quadruplet pregnancies have significantly higher risks than twin pregnancies for most maternal and neonatal complications. Maternal anthropometric, nutritional, and previous reproductive factors may be particularly important in the reduction of these excess risks and improvement of outcomes in multiple births.
The risk of entire pregnancy loss in case of quadruplets is 25%, 15% for triplets, and 8% for twins. Due to high maternal and fetal morbidities, it is ethically also preferable to reduce the number of fetus to have a favorable perinatal outcome. It is common but shocking to register mortality of multiple pregnancy children. Science is continually evolving to fight the mortality related to multiple pregnancy.
