“The Good Brothers Association” have responded to the plight of internally displaced persons from Munkep, who are hosted in Esu.
The association provided both food and none food items to over two hundred IDPs to help boost their resilience and ensure their dignity. The Good Brothers distributed corn, rice salt and soap to dislodged inhabitants of Munkep. A communiqué from the Good Brothers Secretariat says the items cost five hundred thousand Francs (500, 000 F CFA)
The donation took place at the Esu Palace Hall on February 13, 2023. It was facilitated by Abang Abraham, Discipline Master of the Good Brothers Association in collaboration with Venasius Tem, the Village Council Chairman of Esu.
Videos and photos of the donation to the internally displaced persons, showed stricken men, women and children who flared with joy after receiving the gifts from Good Brothers.
Elaborating on the gesture of the offer, Godlove Tang, president of the Good Brothers Association said “The donation is aimed to help displaced persons from villages and farm settlements under the Esu Fondom that have been displaced from their homes as a result of farmer- Grazier conflits, that led to the loss of lives and huge materials. The funds were raised through freewill donation among members of the Association” he noted
Statistics from local authorities say, Esu counts over five hundred persons who have fled Munkep, due to Farmer- Grazier conflicts which led to loss of lives, burning of houses, loss of farm crops and other properties. The conflicts are reported to have sparked up in October 2022, when Fulani herders from Nigeria, in search of pasture, invaded Munkep, a border locality in the outskirt of the Cameroonian town of Esu, sharing boundary with Nigeria.
The Good Brothers Association hopes that peace returns to the locality. Ivo Mbuh, one of the members stated the Association’s position “The Good Brothers as at now are mostly concerned with ensuring that our people get basic food items. This we hope will sustain them while the powers that be do their job to bring the situation to rest. We pray it happens soon. I am deeply touched! Imagine someone who has lived all his life out there, running his/her business or activities without depending on any one and is suddenly turned or condemned to a beggar. It’s disheartening and heartbreaking too” he lamented.
The crave for a return to peace was reiterated by the president of the Good Brothers, Mr Tang who expressed that “We can only call on everyone to stay out of the danger zone and wait for the government, the village council the local authorities to look for lasting solutions to the conflict”
The Good Brothers are exclusively an all male association made up of descendants of Esu. They exist to work for the welfare of legitimate members and assist the needy.
