Cameroon’s Former Defense Minister Receives 30 Years Jail term while His Wife would Serve 10 Years for Embezzlement

Cameroon’s former Minister of Defense shall serve a thirty year jail term.
The Special Criminal Court sentenced Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo’o in jail for engaging in massive fraud during his time at the head of the defense ministry. He was charged with organizing, directing and engaging in criminal activity. The Special Criminal Court jury dominated with it’s judges said his list of offenses included embezzlement of public funds, specifically the over-invoicing of public contracts to the tune of 23 billion CFA francs, money laundering, bribery and taking an interest in an anti Biya act.

Bernadette Mebe Ngo’, wife of Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo’o was also sentenced to ten years in prison for complicity with her husband in the embezzlement of 5 billion CFA francs and money laundering.

Other defendants also found guilty of money laundering were served jail terms.
They include MBANGUE Maxime Léonard, found guilty of complicity in the embezzlement of the sum of FCFA 6.402 billion F CFA. He has been punished with a fifteen year jail term

Lt. Colonel Mboutou, found guilty of embezzlement of FCFA 16 billion waa slammed a 25 years jail term. Menye Victor Emmanuel received a nine year sentence

They were sentenced on February 2nd 2023 after many years of judicial proceedings
