Two Officials Killed on Countdown to Senatorial Elections in Cameroon

Radio Stations in Bamenda and news online sites have reported the killing of two officials of Elections Cameroon. Elections Cameroon, abbreviated ELECAM, is the office for organizing and supervising elections in the country.

Kahyi John Fai, Delegate of Elections Cameroon for MOMO division, North West region has been killed.
Reports say John Fai, was beaten in the early morning of January 19, 2023 by a mob at “New road”, a neighborhood in Bamenda, before being confirmed dead.

The angry crowd is reported to have stormed his compound at new road, where they manhandled him. He was later rushed to a health facility where health officials confirmed his death.

Earlier, a second official of Elections Cameroon was confirmed dead after being shot.
Yufola Gilbert, Divisional Delegate of Elections Cameroon for Jakiri subdivision, Bui division of the North West region was shot dead at GTTC street Bamenda. Local sources say he was fired infront of his gate on the evening of Wednesday 18th January 2023 by heavily armed men.

The killing of the two officials comes on the heels of Senatorial Elections scheduled for March 12, 2023 across Cameroon.

People posing as Separatists in the Anglophone Regions of Cameroon are opposing the announced elections.
