Though in a state of mourning because of the murder of their fon, the people of Esu put up resilience and visited Mankon royal palace. This is unlike others who were led to the palace by their Fon.
Descendants of Esu, led by members of Esu Cultural and Development Association ECUDA, Mezam Branch have paid respect to the outgoing and incoming traditional chiefs of Mankon.r
ECUDA Mezam Branch was bearer of the gift of a stool and palm wine which was offered to the newly enthroned Fon of Mankon, His Royal Highness Angwafo IV. The team from Esu had one of Esu’s music artists Mr Abang Gabriel, who thrilled spectators at Mankon palace with a musical performance.
Esu paid respect to Fon Angwafo III, twentieth traditional ruler of Mankon who “went missing” (died) in May 21st, 2022. The missing traditional ruler was remembered for participating during the 50th anniversary of late, Fon Joseph Meh Buh II, one time traditional Chief of Esu.
Fon Angwafo III gratefully received the guests from Esu with words of contentment “I promise to journey with you, all through this difficult period, God will see you through” He said.
Unlike other tribes who visited the Mankon palace led by their Fon, the people of Esu were without their Fon following his assassination on March 9th, 2022. Fon Kum Achou II Kawzuh Albert Chi together with his wife, Duh Bibiana, were killed in an ambush while returning from a trip.
Ateh Jonas, former General President of ECUDA was among the team that paid courtesy to the Royal palace at Mankon. He expressed resilience over sorrow to live the experience of a people without a king and queen “as children without a mom n dad, while mourning, we should be walking” he said.
Natives from Esu think that, the visit to mankon would transcend to strengthen relationship between the two villages.
