Three hundred and fifty students have been absorbed into the bachelor, masters and PhD degrees at the catholic University of Cameroon – CATUC Bamanda during the fifth convocation of the institution. The ceremony began with a pontifical Holy Mass with CATUC’s Chancellor His Grace Andrew Nkea presiding. Also present among the dignitaries was the Pro Chancellor His Lordship George Nkuo, the Vice Chancellor Reverend Father Joseph Awoh and the Chancellor emeritus His Grace Cornelius Fontem Esua.
Speaking to Cameroon Infotrend during the occasion, the Chancellor His Grace Adrew Nkea said “I am very pleased and high spirited for the graduation of CATUC students at all levels – the bachelors degree, the masters and the PhD. That shows the age of maturity of the university; CATUC has hit its summit so those who come to CATUC can get the various grades of the academic ladder which means that there is nothing CATUC is yet to achieve. We have hit our summit by graduating the first doctoral students and that makes this graduation very special and I thank God for all that CATUC has achieved for the last ten years”. He called on the graduates to embrace dialogue as the culture of living and solving problems, to stand by the truth while disregarding relativism, have respect for one another and ensure that they compete for achievements.
CATUC Chancellor, His Grace Andrew N. presiding at fifth Convocation
CATUC’s Chancellor Father Joseph Awoh expressed pride for the quality of students graduating. He revealed to the press what the Catholic University invests in students
“We are sending out the best graduates we can have anywhere in this country because we have a very strident academic formation for our students. The students know the program, the students themselves monitor what is taught and at the end of every semester we evaluate the students. We also have the project problem based learning where students identify problems in their community on their programs and work with the staff to solve the problem and also to be creative by looking for solutions to problems in their community.” He said.
At the convocation ceremony, students with outstanding performance were acknowledged. Birka Rodrigue Jinyuy from the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences emerged the best graduating student of the 2020 batch with a Gross Product Average of 3.94.
In a chat with The Herald Tribune he said the secret to his success is prayer, hardwork and discipline “CATUC offers an atmosphere for all of that so if you come to CATUC and make the best available for all you have the results would be outstanding”. He intimated.
The graduates from the various establishments of CATUC including the faculties of Business and Management Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science, the Schools of Engineering, the School of Tropical Agriculture and natural resources and the School of Health and Medical Sciences are going out to put into the use the skills that have been invested in them.
