Chenwi Peter, Mayor of Bamenda II Municipality and his collaborators held a meeting with quarter heads January 27 in Bamenda with the main agenda to bond with traditional rulers in order to ease project execution and development. Both parties agreed to work hand in glove in order to realise project delivery. Stakeholders of Bamenda II Council are hopeful that lacing with traditional heads would write new lines in developing the jurisdiction.
“We have realised that we have a lot of security challenges in the Northwest region as a whole and my municipality and with a lot of projects that the head of states has previewed for this region and my municipality, we need to come together to dialogue to pave a way forward for us to realise this projects so we thought it very necessary that with the law of decentralisation we should involve everybody. The quarter heads are the main stakeholders of development that is why we brought them together to share memories to realise these projects. Our main problem is security challenges to realise this projects se we are pleading on the quarter heads to go back negotiate and call their sons and daughters in the bushes to allow the council to bring development. Development is for everybody not for a particular person so let them allow the council to realise the projects” Mayor Chenwi Peter told pressmen.
Councillors, Quarters heads at meeting
The Council has already earmarked some projects for 2021 with the hope that quarter heads and chiefs of villages within Bamenda II would encourage their sons and daughters to put hands on deck for an achievement. The projects include improvement of basic social services, economic development and environmental protection, sports and culture specifically the electrification of villages, provision of drinking water, supply of medical equipment and health centers. Quarter heads from the four villages that make up Bamenda II namely Mbatu, Nsongwa, Chomba and Mankon took the commitment to go back and effect project execution in their areas especially in having basic amenities like water, electricity and roads.
Present too at the meeting held by quarter heads and councillors of Bamenda II were Nicolas Nkongho Manchang D.O of Bamenda II and Anye Matoya -Director General of the Northwest Development Authority MIDENO. They all voiced concerns for a joint effort in carrying out development in order to transform the region.
