The Secretary General of the CPDM Central Committee Jean Nkuete advised contestants in the Northwest Region to be disciplined in the face of a nationwide regional election on Sunday. The senior party official made the appeal during a working session in Bamenda capital of the region where he had an enlarged meeting with candidates vying for seats in the regional house. The meeting at Ayaba Hotel on Thursday 2nd December was also an opportunity for candidates to be presented to the public.
“The guiding force of the CPDM should be discipline. I strongly condemn the attitude of some militants who are the architect of dragging their colleges or aliens of the party to court. This compromises the party and forces the party to incur unnecessary expenses in court procedures. You are to remain calm and listen to directives” Jean Nkuete said while delivering a speech during the walking session.
During the session, Mr Nkuete acknowledged the consistency of CPDM militants in a region where social security is tough “They blamed you for your unwavering support and you took it upon yourself. They hated you for your attachment for the Cameroonian nation and you did not give in. They stigmatized you and you remained faithful and the republican path and your patriotism was not shaken”
He further stressed that the regional elections comes as a response to the demands of Anglophones “Regional councils is a major part to the definitive return of peace. Thus those going in are bearers of peace”
The Northwest region shall join the rest of the country in a Regional Elections scheduled for December 6, 2020. The Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement CPDM is the lone party on the ballot in the Northwest like in the Southwest Region.
The call for discipline by Central Committee Secretary General, Jean N. was pertinent given infighting taking place among CPDM stalwarts in the context of elections.
In Cameroon, 900 regional councillors shall be elected, 90 of each of ten regions in the country in correspondence with the law of December 24, 2019 instituting the General Code on Decentralisation and Local Authorities. Within this scope, the Northwest and Southwest regions shall have a Special Status.
It is reckoned that, the putting in place of Regional Councillors would accelerate decentralisation in Cameroon with faster execution of economic and social projects for development.
