Hundreds of Internally Displaced Persons among them ex combattants received Christmas gifts from Bamenda II Mayor, Chenwi Peter. Each beneficiary returned home with gifts like buckets, face masks, soaps, detergent and rice.
IDPs line up for Christmas gifts
Handing Christmas gifts to IDPs in Bamenda, Mayor Chenwi said “In my office I have about three hundred letters of appeal for assistance in food and dresses, so considering that this is a festive period we cannot abandon those who have been displaced because it is not in their making. We have to celebrate with everybody. That is why we thought it wise to bring those who have been displaced to feel at home”
IDPs who rushed for gifts expressed gratitude as they appreciated the Mayor’s action which they described as “a kind gesture”.
Talking to Info Trends, a beneficiary who opted not to be named gave his words of appreciation “This mayor is really a good father for us who says he cannot eat without thinking about us. Today we are happy to have received alot from him all we can say is – thank you!”
Another beneficiary sees the Mayor as a caring Father “I am happy for the gesture done by the mayor of Bamenda II. The soaps, rice and buckets he has distributed really shows that he cares for his people and we appreciate him very much”
In an interview with one other beneficiary of the Christmas present, she appeals for other Mayors to follow suit. “I received soaps. My family would be able to wash dresses for Christmas. I pray others copy his example from the mayor so that families would live in harmony”
Sample gifts
Mayor Chenwi Peter has built a reputation in solidarity. He is well known in the public for works of charity. One of the most recent is the distribution of food and wash supplies to the Bamenda DDR center some weeks ago. The distribution of Christmas gifts goes into records as the latest act of charity.
