Ten of seventeen projects has been delivered by the Mbengwi Council for the present year with a corresponding 80% budgetary execution rate. The council is committed to achieve higher in the coming year. Mr Ngassa Kennedy Akam Mayor of the Council together with other councillors and staff agreed to step up efforts in serving the population. This was during a session to vote and adopt the budget for 2021.
The budgetary session was moderated by the Secretary General of the Mbengwi Council Mr Ndokonyi Musa. Also present at the session was the Senior Divisional Officer for Mbengwi Center Fouda Etabe Benoir Nicaise, the Divisional Officer Essapa Javis, the First Deputy Mayor Dorine Fonjong Anwi Else Angwe and the Second Deputy Mayor Kadiri Oumarou.

While the Council continues with projects within the gradually expiring current year, the work so far carried out by the council includes Electrification of three villages, rehabilitation of the Mbengei stadium, reaforestration of Bessie forest, Supply of equipment to GS Kobenyang, Support to three common initiative groups, support to vulnerable persons ay social centers and supplyof equipment to Government School Wumsom among others.
“it’s not some magic that has come from heaven. It’s just the way we laced with our population. We tried by all means to involve people who matter and the people who matter are Population who are the primary beneficiary of the project and that’s why we were able to execute our budget for up y 80%. There’s one thing that people fail to forget. When we talk of Security, people only look at the military but security is not military but security should come from within.You secure me and I secure you. That is the context I applied in my municipality before I could realise the 80% execution of the budget” Mayor Ngassa Kennedy Akam said
Even with the 80% execution, the mayor however pointed challenges encountered notably the Anglophone crisis which poses security challenges with Council workers sometimes being attacked plus slow take off of economic activities.
At the council session the budget for 2021 was made public. It stands at seven hundred and seventy million four hundred and eighty nine thousand six hundred and fifty two francs.
Among a number of projects earmarked to be executed within the coming year are construction of stalls, rehabilitation of the Mbengwi Council building, train cattle rearers for improved yield, revamping of the Mbengwi Mortuary and plant environmentally friendly trees. The Council is relying on both local economic activities and funding of national and international partners to enable her sail through.
The Senior Divisional Officer for Momo who was present at the session encouraged councillors to put in their best so as to serve the population who rely on them. He also appealed for collaboration among council staff.
