In a brainstorming spree, councillors prioritized projects to move the growth of Bamenda III municipality. Roads, bridges and extension of water and electricity are earmarked for accomplishment in the development plans. The agenda was made public in a budgetary and administrative accounts session of the council.
Under the stewardship of Mayor Fongu Cletus, stakeholders of the councilconverged in a hall April 22. Present too were the First Deputy Mayor,- Joseph Koti Tita, the Second Deputy Mayor- Banye Margaret Baye Epse Ndzelent, the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam- Mooh Simon Emil and the Fon of Nkwen-Azefor III among other dignitaries. councillors adopted 622,000,000FCFA as the administrative account for the year 2020.
It was after a thorough deliberation that councillors agreed to pursue the tarring of a two kilometre road to link PNEU junction and Farmer’s House Nkwen, construction of a water tank at GTTC, construction of a water pump, complete the construction of Ntasen market within two months, work with the electricity company Eneo for constant supply of lights, distribute at least ten thousand medicated face masks to inhabitants of the council among others. With regards to insecurity within the prevailing Anglophone crisis, Counsellors scrapped off projects deemed either not feasible or risky.
Speaking to the press, Mayor Fongu Cletus expatiated on the projects “the councillors have resolved that each year we are going to tar at least two kilometres of road within the municipality and then besides other projects like construction of bridges , extension of water and electricity to the areas that are still in need and equally embark on other income generating projects like the construction of the Ntasen market and also the construction of a livestock market at mile six Nkwen. With all these projects if realised, it will boost the income level of Bamenda III municipality and it will also enhance development” he said.
The mayor revealed that the council shall partner with funder organisations to realise its plans.
At the council session, the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam was concerned about health protection in the midst of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. Interviewed by the press on what measures the council should take, he said “I ask the entire population of Bamenda III to remain vigilant because we are facing this pandemic at a time Bamenda has recorded one case and at this time when the person is at the Regional hospital we have taken this opportunity to ask the mayor and all councillors to ask the elites of Bamenda III , other mayors of Mezam Division to continue the sensitization of the population against the COVID19 by washing their hands. We are facing a serious pandemic and we need to join our hands to fight against this pandemic. So I am still pleading to the mayors and councillors and also the population to receive this information and show the example in the market and various places and that the measures taken by the government should be everywhere respected.” .
It was the first council session for Bamenda III after taking office within the special status system. The council however has been working hard in health protection. Hundreds of buckets were recently distributed to quarter heads in an effort to maintain hygiene and kick out the coronavirus pandemic.
